Portsmouth Naval Shipyard; Kittery, ME

$10,182,182

Project Description

SAI was Prime Contractor for the design-bid-build 10,000 sf renovation of existing building 166 to convert this WWII historic warehouse facility into a modern facility to house administrative and shop spaces for the Insulator Shop at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.  The scope of work included complete building de-construction to the steel frame.  Prior to roofing and siding demolition asbestos was abated and the entire steel frame was stripped of lead based paint and re-painted.

New construction included replacement of the exterior roofing and siding to replicate the original building historic appearance including the continuous skylight system.  The roofing and siding is comprised of double siding layers, the inner insulated siding and roofing panels served as the building air and water barrier while the outer siding and roofing panel replicated the original historical building appearance. Interior construction included a 2nd floor mezzanine area over approximately ½ of the building area creates the administrative space and mechanical/electrical rooms.  The main floor of the building is utilized for the work and fabrication equipment areas for the Insulator Shop personnel.  A portion of the fabrication equipment was provided by SAI and the remainder was relocated from the existing facility by the Government.

All incoming building utilities were replaced including steam, water, sanitary, electric and fiber optic cabling.
