Project Description

SAI was the design/build Prime Contractor for the design and construction of the campus for Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Group 3 Hangar and supporting structures and runway.  The project site is located near Wheeler Sack Army Airfield at Ft. Drum, NY.  The campus included the UAS Hangar, Sewage lift station building, Organizational storage building, Aviation fuel station, POL storage building,, Fire pump building, and Bulk fuel station.  The facility design, coordinated by SAI’s construction team, met the current DoD Sustainability/Energy standards to achieve a minimum 50 year facility life in accordance with DoD’s Unified Facilities Criteria.

The total site development area for the construction of the buildings, hangar access apron, taxiway, launch area, runway extension, runway overrun and vehicle parking areas was 22 acres.  

The hangar is structural steel frame with pre-insulated siding panels, gross hangar area is 28,100 SF.  The hangar facility consists of a hangar maintenance/storage bay for (4) RQ-7B-1E Shadow drones, administration and training spaces.  The hangar bay includes a foam fire protection system.  SAI provided an integrated building and furnishings design coordinating all furnishings and equipment for the buildings.
